omg I love your blending! how do you make it so?

Hi there!!! Thank you so much!!! Learning how to blend gifs is a pretty steep learning curve but once you understand the mechanics of it, you can get the hang of it rather quickly. I used Becca’s blending tutorial when I first started to learn how to make gifs, especially more complicated ones, and it remains the most comprehensive and easy-to-follow tutorial I’ve seen.

As for personal tips, I advise to always be mindful of lighting and contrast. The way you blend gifs is by layering them on top of one another and changing the blending mode of one of them to “lighten” or “screen” (I personally always use screen). For these blending modes, the lighter parts of the gifs are the ones that will appear, showing up against the darker parts of the other. Because of this, I like to choose scenes that have a good amount of light and dark areas to make for easier layering, as well as being sure to crop my gifs mindfully. For example, if I wanted to layer two shots of a character on top of one another, I try to ensure that one is cropped more towards the right of the character, and one more towards the left so that the gif looks balanced. And don’t be afraid to use layer masks to further manipulate the gifs so that you show the parts you want to see and hide the parts you don’t.

I hope this made some sense, please feel free to reach out if you have any more questions!!!

Hi! Do you have a tutorial about how to make gifs like this? https://www.tumblr.com/captain-hen/718203110790660096/911-under-pressure-lgbtqcreators-creator?source=share

Like making them with only one certain prominent colour if that makes sense? I'm not good at explaining tbh, i'm sorry! Your sets always look so amazing! Thanx for making them!

hi! thank you for your kind words! so, in this set, i used three different methods to get those results. the method i used for hen and maddie’s gifs is already explained here. the method i used for the rest of yellow gifs, and the gif with Buck coming out of the swimming pool, was just highlighting and isolating colors that are already prominent in the image. i’ll touch on that briefly, later, but i’ll expand more on how i did the buddie and buckley siblings gifs, which is color manipulation. i’ll be showing you how to get a gif that looks a bit like this:

Hi!

I was just wondering if you have a tutorial on how you created this effect in your gifset, it's something I'd like to try but have no idea where to start. Your set is so pretty! Any helps appreciated x

Hey Nonnie, thank you! This is super late, but I don’t actually have the psd for this set anymore (I delete them as soon as I post them), so we’re just gonna wing it with a gif I made the other day. I think this ask is about the text, but if it’s anything else, just drop me another line and I’ll get to it when I can!

I’m pretty sure I got this tutorial from the wonderful @eddiediaaz but I then turned it into Lazy Girl Hours :)) anywho, here we go!

We’ll be making this gif:

This tutorial assumes basic knowledge of gif-making, Photoshop, and coloring. I’ve only described the typography tutorial in this, but you can reach out if you have any questions.

Hello! I’d love to start giffing the actors from Abbott Elementary and was wondering if you had any psds already or tips on how to colour, because the last thing I’d like to do it whitewash! Thank you.

How exciting! I adore Abbott, and I’m glad you’re gonna gif for it.

I avoid using coloring PSDs because from my experience, there’s not really one PSD that fits every scene, character, or actor. My best advice is to play around and see how you adjust to coloring. Another thing is to always have a reference of what the actors look like in real life so you can check to see if your coloring is accurate.

Here are some guides to help avoid color/white washing:

@zoyanazyalensky guide to avoid orange washing

@jeonwonwoo how to avoid pink/yellow washing

    I hope this helps!
